Pruning and Maintenance:
·    Time    late Spring rejuvenate an older plant.  Summer to shape hedges and edging plants
·    By shearing for the first few years after planting, your boxwood will develop more branching and thickness. Once they have reached the desired density, shearing can be done only to maintain the form you want
·    Older boxwoods may need some of the older branches pruned so light can reach the new inner growth
·    All boxwoods (even formal, sheared hedges) need their canopy thinned to allow light and air to penetrate, helping to minimize disease.  Reach in and cut several branches back 6-8 inches

·    Don't plant too many things close to the boxwood shrubs. They have shallow roots
·    Boxwood is versatile and can withstand a lot of clipping, which is why it's ideal for hedges and topiary
·    Clipping individual stems to maintain the desired size results in a more natural look. Shearing lets you create more formal geometric shapes
Fertilize
·    Fertilize with an all purpose fertilizer in Spring before you see any new growth
