|
Pruning and Maintenance:
· Time – Winter or early Spring
· Deadhead the flowers will encourage a 2nd bloom in the Spring
· Cut away any dying or diseased branches any time of year
· Thin out the center of the bush to keep the air circulating throughout the shrub. Since the Goldmound Spirea mounds naturally, it can start clumping up through the middle
· Remove up to 1/3 of the shrub while pruning per season
· Removing more than this can leave the shrub stressed and susceptible to pests and disease
· Need a heavy pruning two or three times their first two seasons. They grow fast and leggy during first 2 seasons so pruning keeps them busy and in shape
|
Fertilize
· Feed with a general purpose fertilizer in the Spring
